What you will be doing.

NexTrium's work is grounded in research. Every product we build starts with a question about a real problem in a real market, and the quality of our answers determines the quality of what we ship. As a Research Associate on the founding team, you will be the person who goes deep on those questions. You will investigate markets, analyse systems, review literature, and produce findings that shape what NexTrium builds and how we position it. Your work will span multiple domains, including blockchain and decentralized systems, AI and Machine Learning, African informal economies, financial inclusion, identity infrastructure, and emerging technology policy. You will contribute to grant proposals, white papers, product feasibility studies, and ecosystem reports. Some of your work will be published under the NexTrium name. All of it will matter to the decisions we make. This role suits someone who is rigorous, intellectually curious, and comfortable sitting with complexity without rushing to simple answers. You do not need a PhD. You need the discipline to follow a question wherever it leads and the clarity to communicate what you find.

What we are looking for
Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesise information from multiple sources into clear, actionable findings
Experience writing research reports, literature reviews, feasibility studies, or similar documents to a high standard
Comfort working across interdisciplinary topics including technology, economics, policy, and social systems
Familiarity with blockchain, decentralised systems, or Web3 ecosystems is a strong advantage
Understanding of African market dynamics, particularly around financial inclusion, informal economies, and technology adoption
Proficiency in academic and grey literature research methods
Ability to structure and present complex information clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong written English with attention to precision, nuance, and citation discipline
Self-directed work ethic with the ability to manage research projects independently from question definition through to final output
Clear written communication for async remote collaboration
