What you will be doing.

NexTrium's products sit at the intersection of decentralised systems, AI, and financial infrastructure for underserved markets. The technical decisions we make now will determine what we are capable of building in five years. As Chief Technology Officer, you will own those decisions. You will define NexTrium's technical vision, set the architecture standards, lead the engineering team, and ensure that what we build is not just functional but foundational. This is a founding executive role. You will work directly with the CEO on product and technical strategy, translate that strategy into engineering priorities, and build the culture and capability of the engineering team from the ground up. You will make the calls that are too consequential to delegate and carry the accountability that comes with that authority. The technology landscape NexTrium operates in is demanding. We work with Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and Tailwind on the product side. Our protocol work involves Cardano, Midnight, Aiken smart contracts, and zero-knowledge systems. Our research initiatives touch federated learning, edge AI, and IoT integration. You do not need to be an expert in all of these. You need the technical depth to lead people who are, and the judgment to make sound architectural decisions across all of them. The right person for this role has built things that work in production, led engineers through hard technical problems, and understands that the best technical decisions are the ones that serve the user and the mission, not just the elegance of the system.

What we are looking for
Deep technical expertise across full-stack web development, API architecture, and cloud infrastructure
Experience with blockchain development, particularly in the Cardano ecosystem with Aiken or Plutus, is a strong advantage
Familiarity with AI and machine learning systems, particularly in edge or decentralised contexts
Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and making architectural decisions that scale
Ability to evaluate and select technology stacks, tools, and third-party services with a long-term perspective
Strong understanding of security, data privacy, and compliance requirements relevant to financial and identity systems
Ability to balance technical rigour with the speed requirements of an early-stage company
Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source projects is a strong advantage
Clear written and verbal communication for translating technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders
Strategic thinking with the ability to connect technical decisions to business and mission outcomes
Genuine excitement about building technology infrastructure for African markets and the unique challenges that context presents
